Social media and glamour, the perfect combination!

A social media job sounds like it should be glamorous but most of the time it isn’t.

Depending on what type of social media job you go for you’ll probably be running around putting campaigns together, chasing people for content, scheduling, tweeting, blogging, vlogging and more, on top of all that there’s the pressure to meet deadlines and get results!

Even the most glamorous social media jobs will be all smiles on Instagram but no-one knows that you had your eye bags photoshopped due to no sleep for days!

What social media jobs are considered the most glamorous?

Travel blogger

Travelling all round the world, writing about it and getting paid to do it sounds amazing!

To be a successful travel blogger you’re going have to do a lot of ground work, you really have to be passionate about traveling, even if you don’t get paid to do it because at first you probably wont be. You’re going to have to prove that you can be a good travel blogger before reaching out to get paid for it. Before setting off to be a travel blogger, niche yourself, put a strategy in place, have your audience in mind and have your end goal in sight.

Personal Tweeter AKA  “A Twitter PA”

For some showbiz celebrities, sports celebrities and business people, having to run their Twitter account as well as everything else in their day is just too much!

These are people who are time poor but cash rich and will employ the services of a Twitter Pa or perhaps an online brand reputation manager

From the moment your celebrity wakes up your job will be to engage credibly with the fans. If you’re tweeting for a sports celebrity then you’ll need to know the sport inside out and if it’s a huge football celebrity then it would be a bonus to be bilingual otherwise you’ll have to get many tweets translated. If the sports celebrity you’re tweeting for only speaks one language then that’s the language you would always reply in, but it’s courteous to reply to all tweets. If you become the Twitter PA to some high flying business person then it would be paramount to understand the industry and the same goes for tweeting for showbiz celebrities. You can’t tweet for Leonardo Dicaprio if you don’t know all of his films back to front, I could be his Twitter PA though I’m his biggest fan! I will tell you a true story I was once a Twitter PA for a Gorilla called Alan Partridge!! So true, it was for charity and I had to learn everything about Alan Partridge because the gorilla took on the personality of the “Ah-Ha” failed television presenter! Gorillas definitely need Twitter PA’s because they’re all fingers and thumbs when tweeting!

Seriously though, Twitter PA’s will become more in demand as more fans and customers want 24/7 engagement. As well as knowing the industry, the celebrity, being super social, super patient, you must also be as cool as a cucumber in a crisis, sometimes things just happen with celebrities and business people, you will have to tweet your way through it on behalf of them.

Social media reporter

A social media reporter will be assigned to the digital version of a magazine or paper, providing coverage as it happens. A lot of social media reporters get their stories from Twitter but depending on the readers many other platforms come into play. A good one for business is linkedin, you’ll find the reporters in groups opening up discussions and interviewing whilst collecting information to use. Depending on what magazine, paper or industry, a reporter may attend events to live tweet from. This also applies to news worthy events unfolding, sometimes a social media reporter will be at the scene, live tweeting.

Fashion social media marketing

Always a favourite, like travel blogger you have to be really passionate to be successful in the fashion industry because it’s highly competitive.

You’ll have to put lots of groundwork in to market yourself and your skills to employers. You’ll probably be fashion blogging, vlogging, instagramming, pinning to Pinterest to name a few activities to get yourself noticed.  Once you’ve kicked a door open to opportunity then you could be a resident blogger for whatever fashion company you work for. Perhaps you’d like to be the community manager, chatting about fashion all day with your tribe. If you’re a fashionista who’s streets ahead of anyone else then perhaps an online trend spotter is what you’ll be hot at. As a trend spotter you would be sourcing the trend setters of tomorrow, engaging with them, building communities, spot purchasing trends, accessory trends etc.. before anybody else.

Sometimes it is glamorous, I know of one fashion blogger who was paid by the company she worked for to go to all the top sports events, write about the fashion and take photos. What people fail to realise though, is to get to that position it takes a lot of hard work and persistence.

Which one is the most glamorous? You can decide!
