Jobhop Jobhop's blog : Online Brand Reputation Managers Will Be In Demand

Posting a quick status update without really thinking has got a lot of people in trouble, especially celebrities and politicians, you'd think they'd know better.

That's exactly it, many of them don't know, for some strange reason they forget that the masses could potentially see their update, it doesn't even matter if they then delete it because some smart Alec has probably screen shot it, photoshopped it and off it goes on another round on Facebook.

They're all at it !

Justin Beiber had to apologise after making a racist joke on video, he also had to apologise after he'd spray painted a hotel wall and posted the pictures on Instagram.

Liam Payne from One Direction was forced to apologise after a photo of standing on a ledge of a high rise building was tweeted.

Twitter was tweeting mad when a picture of what looked like marijuana was posted on there from Rihanna

Charlie Sheen was a super plonker when he thought he could just give his mobile number out via a public tweet, his phone didn't stop ringing for a very long time!

And it’s not just the celebrities, it’s politicians, business people and it’s your local friendly face who once active online becomes a vamp and lives to regret it later!

It takes a good online reputation brand manager to keep check that the customer and the customers brand doesn’t get tarnished by one silly slip up.

A good online reputation brand manager will also make sure that any past or present “digital dirt” is drowned, that means when searches are made only the good stuff gets seen. It’s not just the digital that the client contributed to themselves, but in todays world with smart phone cameras your digital dirt could be snapped by any passer by and tweeted within seconds, the reputation brand manager has to be on top of everything.

A day would typically consist of promoting good posts across many networks, drowning digital dirt, it may include having to get some posts removed altogether, chatting to “fans”, it could also include keeping tabs on your clients family and alerting the client whenever their children or partners are mentioned online. A reputation brand manager may do this for a number of clients or they may be employed by one client, when employed by just one client part of the job could be to follow the client around and live tweet on their behalf as they go about on their daily activities.

If the client is someone who’s in the limelight, perhaps a presenter or a singer then expect to be attending events with them to live tweet/ post and engage with their “fans” during the intervals.

An online reputation brand manager would also work for people trying to build their brand for the first time, for example a singer who wants to show up online everywhere, but whenever their name is tapped into the search engines it’s the other people who hog the first three pages of the search results.

An online reputation brand manager helps to build a great brand for the client as well as making sure it’s not ruined in a silly second.

This type of job can be very glamourous depending on your client or clients, it can also be very demanding because if “shit hits the fan” at 3am in the morning you’ll be the person required to sort out the crisis!
