Jobhop Jobhop's blog : How Not To Get A Job in 5 Easy Steps

Jobhop Jobhop's blog

It seems that many people who say they want a job, don’t really want a job, otherwise they wouldn’t be doing what they’re doing!

There are many ways to get a job and even more many ways not to get a job.

If you want to get it completely wrong and not get a job here’s 5 steps to achieve your goal.

1 Tell everyone you want a job

Classic mistake, many jobseekers think that by telling everyone they want a job then they’ll get a job.

It very rarely happens like that, people need to know what type of job you want, what type of place you’d like to work at and what skills you have to offer. Armed with that information people can start connecting you to friends and acquaintances who may be able to help. Just saying “I want a job” isn’t specific enough, it doesn’t register with people, it doesn’t help them to delve into the filing cabinets of their mind to make a connection.

The other problem is by  saying “I want a job” or "I need a job" it makes you sound desperate, it sounds as if you would take any job. Employers like to think that you want their job, it doesn’t give them peace of mind knowing that you’d take any job that comes your way.

2 Tweeting dirty on Twitter

You’ve just applied for some great positions at some great companies but did you stop to think that your future employer could be lurking on Twitter? Obviously not because they just saw your tweet, the one where you swore at the football results, and that political rant you had and what you said you’d like to get up to with another Twitterer! Just carry on tweeting dirty to make sure you don’t get a job.

3 Do some social media bitching

You can’t stand Stacey, you can’t be in the same room as Ben, you’ll be pleased if you never saw Colette again and Jamie can rot in hell!. If a potential employer or recruiter sees that you like to bitch on social media then you’ll be given a wide berth, is that your intentions?

4 Don’t network

We get it..you don’t like networking, you might even be shy. So don’t network and this will be a sure way of not getting a job. Employers prefer to have employee referrals and many jobs are filled via referrals and recommendations, the way to get referred and recommended is to get out and network. Networking can be done anywhere, on line as well as off line, it’s all about making relationships. Make sure you keep yourself to yourself and you’ll assured to know that it will be a lot harder to get a job.

5 Give up

The moment you give up is usually the moment when something is about to happen. If you don’t want that job then just quit. Of course there are going to be times when you will feel like giving up so if you want to fail just give up. Tell everyone how hard it is and that you’ve had enough, then just admit you’ll never get your dream job so what’s the point.

Of course we don’t agree with any of the above and we want you to do completely the opposite!
