Jobhop Jobhop's blog : Why Thinking Like An Entrepreneur Makes You More Employable

Jobhop Jobhop's blog

Where has the time gone?  This is a blog post about a Blab I had with Baiju Solanki   which was aired last week but I’ve only had time to write about it now! It’s been hectic here at Jobhop headquarters!

I had wanted to do a Blab with Baiju for a while but our diaries never liked each other, it took a while for us both to find a day and time which suited us both, it was well worth the wait though!

Baiju is the co founder of Be Entrepreneur and the presenter of I’m an entrepreneur TV, so of course, he is all about the entrepreneur mindset. You might be thinking that you’ve come to the Jobhop website because you want to work for a great company, not to find out information on how to set up your own business, I urge you to read on because you will find this interesting.

Baiju firmly believes that having an entrepreneurial mindset will make you employable.

What’s an entrepreneurial mindset though? Baiju explains that entrepreneurs come out of their comfort zone, they surround themselves with like minded people and they do something than many others don’t, they take action!

In the interview Baiju talks about how to meet other entrepreneurial mindsets and recommends an onlime platform called meetup.com, a place where you can meet them online but then physically go and meet up at an organised event.

He also gives us a tip on how touching peoples elbows can help with human connection, to make others feel at ease around you, I’ve tried this already and it works!

You might think that you’re not a natural entrepreneur, but just think back to your early school days, did you ever trade Dr Who Cards, football cards or the latest card fad at lunchtime in the playground? Perhaps it was Pokeman cards, but then the teacher came along and told you that you mustn’t do that in the playground. Guess what that was your inner entrepreneur coming out but then it was quashed by the establishment. Baiju believes we can all find that inner entrepreneur again and once it’s found it can really help propel your career.

Businesses like to employ people who think like a business person but don’t want to take the risks of an entrepreneur, there’s even a name for people like that The Intrapreneur

Richard Branson credits the Virgin Brand success to intrapreneurship “Virgin could never have grown into the group of more than 200 companies it is now, were it not for a steady stream of intrapreneurs who looked for and developed opportunities, often leading efforts that went against the grain.”

An intrapreneur uses their entrapreneurial mindset whilst working within an organisation.

Businesses need people with entrepreneurial mindsets, they need intrapreneurs. These intrapreneurs have great ideas for business growth, have ideas for developing opportunities for the organisation and work alongside the entrepreneur happily knowing that they’re not the risk takers, but they are the innovators.
