Employing an apprentice is good for business
Businesses are sometimes hesitant in recruiting an apprentice and some have never considered it due to lack of knowledge. Knowledge is power, if more businesses were to meet employers who successfully recruit apprentices then more informed choices can be made.
Lets look at the positives of employing an apprentice:
Digital natives
If you are looking to grow your business but lack digital skills needed these days then the apprentice usually possess these skills. They haven’t been called the Ipod generation, the Beta Generation for nothing, they do digital naturally.
Energy
Apprentices bring a new energy into the workplace, they are full of eagerness and fresh ideas.
Retention
Developing young people generates a certain loyalty towards their employers and organisation. Employing apprentices is an effective way of creating ambassadors for your company for years to come.
Skills
The apprenticeship system helps with the training of skills and the whole point of this system is to make sure that UK economy doesn’t suffer a skills shortage.
Future
Think about the future of your business, how is it developing? Will you need skilled workers in 5 – 10yrs time? They’re here now, they’re your apprentice.
Currently there is a new era for apprenticeships, employers are realising that their apprentice can be a valuable asset to their business.
In Norwich apprentices from Face to Face finance have joined with apprentices from Broadland training services to become Team BCTS and are doing the Brathay apprentice challenge.
It’s a national competition and it’s all about raising awareness, not just to people who are thinking about apprenticeships, but also to employers about the value of employing an apprentice.
So far the team have been speaking in schools, fundraising, helping in the community, exhibiting, writing blog posts and chatting on radio.
These apprentices are proud of what they are achieving and their employers are proud too, so much so they’re shouting it from the roof tops.
