Jobhop Jobhop's blog : Why Does Norwich Have The Happiest Employees In The UK?

Jobhop Jobhop's blog

A recent study by business psychologists, OPP found that employee happiness is on the rise, which is great news.

Out of the whole of the UK, Norwich was found to have the happiest employees, this is music to our ears because if you don't already know, Norwich is the home place to Jobhop.co.uk.

So what makes Norwich such a great place to work and why are employees happier in Norwich than anywhere else?

Pretty

Going to work in a pretty location makes such a difference, even on a rainy day, Norwich looks pretty. When you need to go for a walk to clear your head or just want to wander on your lunch break, Norwich offers the cobbled, winding roads of Elm Hill where the magical film Stardust was made, featuring Robert Deniro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Claire Danes, Sienna Miller, Rupert Everett, Ricky Gervais, David Walliams as well as many others. A walk around the market square is delightful with all the many colours, or just as pretty is the walk alongside the river past St James Mill. When the location is great,  it can break up a working day in a refreshing, energising way.

Collaborative

Norwich is huge on collaboration, instead of competing with one another, businesses pull together to collaborate, creating a much friendlier place to work in. You'll see this happening with Tweet-ups, events, career fairs and more. One event where Norwich businesses are collaborating is #DigitalCity, which is being held in February, an event aimed at getting more people into digital jobs.

Friendly

It's one of the friendliest places in the UK; people go out of their way to say hello. When you're rushing to work, and someone smiles and wishes you a lovely day, that sets you up in a positive mindset. A smile is contagious, and Norwich is a city of smiling people.

Safe

Norwich prides itself on having low crime levels, which gives you peace of mind that you can safely have a drink in the city after work or even park your bike and not worry all day because it might get stolen.

Leisure

Whatever you fancy doing after work, it's usually happening somewhere in Norwich. You can learn a new language, learn salsa, try your hand at baking, learn how to ski, roller skate or horse ride. Perhaps you love good food and wine, or even a beer festival. It could be shopping that takes your fancy or a bit of a history lesson at the cathedral or the Castle, whatever you like to do leisurely Norwich has it covered.

There are so many good things about working in Norwich; you can see why employees are happier here than anywhere else in the UK.
