Jobhop Jobhop's blog

A social jobseeker is hyperconnected, they’re not necessarily actively looking for a job, however they’re actively attracting opportunities and they know how to source them when the time comes.

A social jobseeker will jobhop if they’re not in the right job, or if the company promise doesn’t live up to its expectations.

Employers have to understand what a social jobseeker really wants, to be able to attract them and keep them.

What is more important, company culture or money?

68% of social jobseekers said that company culture is more important than money. They would rather work somewhere which fitted their personality, somewhere they loved and were excited to go to everyday, a place which attracted like minded people.

How fast do they expect to climb the career ladder?

Between 1 - 3 years was the overall answer. Employers need to show the career route right from the start, social jobseekers are ambitious and want goals.

How often do they like feedback?

If a business thinks it can get away with a once a year appraisal with not much else in between then it’s got another thing coming... 52% would accept monthly feedback, 35% would like weekly and 8% said they’d like daily feedback.

Would online reviews put them off applying for a job at a company?

68% said yes! So if your company has bad employee reviews on Glassdoor or there’s bad reviews on the Facebook business page or maybe even Tripadvisor or Yelp then an emergency meeting needs to be called. Those reviews are not going help your company attract talent!

Would no social media presence put you off applying for a job?

34% said they would be put off applying for a job if the company had no social media presence

Would a poor website put them off applying for a job?

Over 67% said yes, they would be put off if the company had a poor website. Many companies have got rotten websites and in a mobile world and knowing that the social jobseeker is mobile, their websites are not responsive! Shame on you if you’re guilty of this.

Would poor technology put social jobseekers off applying for a job at your company?

58% said yes it would. Many probably wouldn’t find out until after they’d started their new role and if it was so poor they couldn’t do their job well, frustration would probably get the better of them.

Would they look for another job if the training was poor?

Nearly 78% of social jobseekers said they would. Everyone should be able to have the chance to grow and develop within the company they work for but if the training is poor, how can they?

Are the ethics of the company social jobseekers work for important?

A whopping 93% of them said yes! If what a company does goes against their values then they wont be attractive to the social jobseeker whatever is offered in benefits or money.

The social jobseeker has high morals and standards which they stand by.

Would they tell others if they had a bad recruitment experience?

YES!  95% said they would. Companies need to understand that with social media that negative message could reach thousands. What companies must also realise is that today candidates have social influence, they are connected and can influence many other candidates and consumers!
