Careers Pages Are In !

Does your business hire people? Perhaps your business has struggled to hire people, perhaps your business has haemorrhaged vast amounts of pounds on recruitment and advertising? The mad thing is that many businesses are not utilising their own website, many haven’t got a careers page or if they have all they’ll have plastered across it is the gloomy message which say “No Vacancies” Businesses need to start thinking long term, not just about what’s happening now, there might not be any vacancies now but I’m sure there will be in the not so distant future.

With the power of the internet people are constantly researching, reading reviews, bookmarking pages and joining communities. This is what people do now, why would they do anything different when they look at what career they’d like or what type of company they’d like to work at?

So with that in mind if any of these people come over to your website, bearing in mind some of these people could be top talent of the future which your business could soon be crying out for.

Are you missing out by not having a careers page?

What should your careers page be offering?

People want to know why you’re the preferred employer, why should they choose you above your competitors, what can you offer them what the others can’t?

A great environment to work in

Use your careers section to display photos of your business, show them the clean streamlined offices or the sales floor, show them the chill out area, the cafe, the sandwich van that pulls up. Is your business set in nice grounds? If so show pictures of the grounds. If you’re lucky enough to have table tennis or ping pong or even a gym then make sure these are definitely showcased.

A beautiful location

People re locate if they want to work for you enough. If your business is based in a great location then let everyone know, there are some absolutely desirable work locations and many businesses completely fail to realise that the location can be very attractive to talent.

Benefits

Benefits don’t necessarily mean company cars or big bonuses it could be supplying fresh fruit , parking for bikes, discounts for employees, branded clothing, yearly eye tests, or the annual Christmas party. I bet your business offers many benefits which you don’t broadcast enough, your careers site will give you the opportunity to visually present them.

Job roles

Are there many different types of jobs done at your business? There may be someone in marketing, someone manning the reception, an area sales person plus the people in the I.T department and don’t forget the engineers. Wouldn’t it  be good anyone  considering working there to see the many possible opportunities for them.

A good way to showcase the job roles is through video, have an employee talking through their job role to camera.

Culture

What is the culture like? Do you all come together as one big team, is it a very competitive culture, or is it more of a traditional place to work at.?Your company culture includes expectations, mission, the vision, values and ethics, all of this should be on the career site so potential candidates can check to see if it’s the type of place they’d like to join.

Social

It’s not all about work you know, let people find out what happens when you let your hair down. Do you all zip wire for charity? Do you sponsor a local football team? Perhaps there’s a running club on Wednesday evenings or game nights on Tuesdays, whatever and however you’re social then let others know about it.

Recruitment

What is the recruitment process? Many companies fail to let candidates know if they were successful or not, or they get told “If you don’t hear from us then you weren’t successful. Many candidates coming to an interview are nervous, if you could explain the process and let them know what to expect and how long it will take then it may not be so nerve racking. Remember to tell them how long after the interview will they find out if they were successful
