Jobhop Jobhop's blog : New Year Social Media Resolutions To Make And Keep
You’ve been using social media to connect to employers and increase the chances of getting a job.
With the New Year coming up, it’s the perfect time to set some social media resolutions.
Just by using a few new tactics your social media efforts could help get you recognised.
Freshen Up Your Page
Pages get stagnant when they’re left with an old cover photo, or haven’t had a profile picture changed for a while. You’ve changed in the last year—or however long it’s been—so it’s time to change your photos and image. Make it your number one resolution to update your picture and freshen up your page.
Be Interesting for Your Fans and Followers
Do you ever wonder why people would want to be your friend? Do you ever wonder if someone is going to find a topic interesting? Use the New Year to become more interesting, just like you should be in real life. If people aren’t interested, they won’t bother following you and you’ll lack engagement on your posts.
Give It Time
Your social media network isn’t going to grow instantly overnight. Employers won’t give you a job because you’ve contacted with them once. You’ll need patience, you have to connect then you have to work at building up a relationship, exactly as you would if you were to network off line. Make 2014 your chance to build on your patience levels, work out a plan with your goals and work out the amount of time you should allocate.
Engage, Share, and Give Credit
It sounds like separate three activities, but they all work together as one. It’s time to engage with more people through social media. It’s not just a place for you to share your own thoughts, but the thoughts and knowledge of those you find interesting—and believe could interest others. This is a great tactic to use to get on a company’s radar, give them a credit by tagging them. They’re more likely to notice you if you do this regularly.
Mixture of Automating and Personal Interaction
Automated software is great if you’re going away for a short period, but you still need to personally interact, do not just rely on automated messages. If this sounds like you then 2014 is the year to create a good balance between the two. When you get a new follower, personally thank them, it’s a hundred times better than an automated reply. Many automated replies put people right off straight from the start, if they’re spammy then you’re more than likely to lose that follower immediately.
Put the mistakes in the past and set some social media resolutions for the New Year. It will increase your chances of finding employment with the help of social media.
