Jobhop Jobhop's blog : How Does Social Proof Help You Get A Job?

Jobhop Jobhop's blog

Employers and  Recruiters want to get the “right person” for the job in the most cost effective way and in the less time possible.

How can you speed up the process in letting them know that you’re the right person for the job?

You have to help the employer make the right decision by avoiding making a mistake, by displaying social proof it will influence them to choose you.

Social proof are your endorsements , recommendations and testimonials.

In 1969 an experiment was carried out in New York by Milgram, Bickman & Berkowitz. They proved that a group of four or more people looking up at the sky influenced 80% of passers-by to do the same.

If just one person stared up at the sky only 40% of passers by would look up, but increase the number looking up to four or more then they got the 80% result.

Conclusion: The more people performing the same behaviour influences more people

How do you influence Employers to connect with you, to invite you to an interview and to hopefully choose you for the job?

If many other people are all saying how brilliant you are then the employer will begin to believe that you must be brilliant.

Social Proof Works!

  • Get testimonials from your connections on Linkedin. You can either ask for them or give testimonials to people you know and hopefully they’ll reciprocate.
  • Create a testimonials page, this could be part of your online CV.  If you’re active on Twitter and have had a good share of positive comments and recommendations then embed those tweets onto your page.
  • Create a you tube channel for your video testimonials, there’s nothing better than an actual person telling the world how brilliant you are.
  • Create a slideshare presentation of your best testimonials, complete with photos of the people giving them, nothing beats visual proof.
  • Have you got a blog? Encourage people to comment on it. if you regularly give good advice and tips and people have used your words of wisdom successfully, ask them to comment about it.

Research says that Social Proof works to influence
