Jobhop Jobhop's blog : Day One Of The Jobhop Kickstarter Campaign

Jobhop Jobhop's blog

Today is the first day of our Kickstarter campaign! I’m not embarrassed to tell you but I feel rather scared, I’m doing something completely new and who doesn’t feel scared when faced with the unknown.

So I’ll tell you the story so far and then tell you why Jobhop is doing a kickstarter campaign.

Many of you know how Jobhop came about, but for the ones who are new to the Jobhop story, I’ll quickly fill you in. I used to have another business and I was looking to employ someone to help me franchise the business but I had no success with my search. I felt let down by recruitment agencies so I decided to try my hand at using the internet to find good people. That’s when I discovered online networking and how effortlessly I could connect and engage with potential candidates. On a drive back from London to Norwich one day, the idea of creating a platform where employers and talent could just connect and get to know each other materialised, without jobs getting in the way. I thought how nice it would be if employment was human, real connections made, decisions weren’t based on how good a CV looked, or what the recruitment agent had to say or even what colour the psycho analysis chart predicted.

I sold the business I was then franchising and went off to learn about being social, after a while I put plans in place for Jobhop.co.uk The more I learn, the more jobhop evolves. You‘ll notice that it specifically reaches out to attract digital talent, that’s because the UK is suffering from a major shortfall in digital talent and we want to solve that. Jobhop is fun and social enough to attract a young digital audience but it also reaches out to employers who need these skills for their businesses to survive.

That’s the very short version of how Jobhop materialised, if you’d like the long version then feel free to contact me julie@jobhop.co.uk and we can arrange a comfy Skype chat.

So, now the position is we’re reaching out to you and many others to join us on the mission of making employment human.

We believe that by getting employers to understand the power of building communities then that way they’ll nurture their communities before any job vacancies, during job vacancies and once job vacancies have been filled.

For example: An employer knows they will need web developers in the near future, but instead of waiting until they have the job vacancies, they get on with creating a community of web developers now.

That community is engaging, is looked after, is fed great content, has questions answered and strong relationships are built. When the time comes to recruit the employer knows exactly who they will invite along for an interview. The whole recruitment experience will be  good for the candidate because:

  1. They know already if they want to work with you
  2. You know that they’ll go back to the community to review the interview process
  3. Even if they don’t get the job that time it’s a positive experience and they remain in the community

By creating communities and making employment human brings many benefits for the candidate but equally so, many benefits for the employer.

Candidate benefits:

  • They gain knowledge
  • They have inside information
  • They get an understanding for the company culture
  • They can continue to remain a passive candidate
  • They feel connected to the company
  • They feel loyal to the company
  • If/when invited to the interview, pre interview nerves wont get in the way
  • They won’t feel like a complete newbie if/when given the job
  • They can remain in the community until the time is right

Employer benefits:

  • Attracts top talent
  • Creates ambassadors
  • Retains talent
  • Increases referrals
  • Constant talent community
  • Competitive advantage
  • Cuts recruitment costs

Jobhop has the already built the foundations for these talent communities to sit on, we now need to get the communities built, as well as making the user experience quicker and easier to navigate.

This is where we need your help.

If you believe in making employment human, making it a better experience for the candidate and for the employer, then please join us on this mission.

View the Jobhop Kickstarter campaign and see if there are any rewards you’d like.

The other way to join is to spread the word, share this post and share the Kickstarter campaign with as many people as possible, so we can spread the word.
