Jobhop Jobhop's blog : Day 3 Jobhop Kickstarter Can Crowdfunding Get You A Job?

Jobhop Jobhop's blog

Can you seriously find your dream job on a crowdfunding site?

What if people looked at crowdfunding platforms as pools of potential new jobs. Currently it doesn't look like many people even consider hanging out on crowdfunding platforms when they'relooking for a job, perhaps they don't see crowd funding as a potential source of jobs or perhaps they just don't know where to start.

One this is for sure is that with the growing popularity of crowdfunding it’s quite obvious that a serious number of people will obtain work because of it.

Jobsincrowdfunding.com reckons that with the rate of how crowdfunding is exploding 170,000 jobs will be created in the next five years.

How could you get a job via crowdfunding?

Use crowdfunding to get yourself the job

If you don't go after what you want, you'll never have it. If you don't ask, the answer's always no. If you don't step forward, you're always in the same place. --Nora Roberts

Simply put “If you don’t ask, you don’t get”

Your starting point would be to make a list of your ideal companies and start to build a relationships with them, the easiest way to do that is to find them on social media then use it to connect and say the first hello.

Chat with the employees, connect with the employer or the internal recruiter, make sure they get to know you.

Get a good rapport going then ask to have a skype chat .

Once you have your potential employer on a Skype call you can then tell them about your dream of working for them.

If you’ve been doing your relationship building right your potential employer should already know about your skills.

Always remember “what’s in it for them” it makes sense to take someone on if that person is going to double turnover, develop growth, solve a very problematic problem or similar. The exciting part is telling them that you will raise half of your salary for the first six months by crowdfunding, the downside is you may need to explain what crowdfunding is to them!

If you’re someone with a good tribe, a great family and plenty of friends who want you to get this job more than anythingelse, then it should be relatively plain sailing to crowd fund part of your salary.

Check out great start ups

You might be someone who’s excited about start ups, the good news is that there’s plenty of start ups on crowd funding platforms.

Research the campaigns that you like and check to see if any are a good fit for your personality and skills. Reach out to these people and build a relationship with them. They might reach their funding goal and you may get an opportunity to work for them immediately or an opportunity may come later at another time. Even if the Kickstarter campaign isn't a success stay in touch with them, they may require your services at a later stage, they may do another crowdfunding campaign.

Create A Case Study

Let's say you want to get a marketing job, and you know that these days experience of some kind is usually sought after.

Use a crowdfunding platform to find a great product or service to market. Get in touch with the right person and offer to do some marketing for them, explain that you're going to use it for a case study for your portfolio. Doing this could help you n a couple of ways:

a) You'll do a great job, your marketing generates a lot of buzz, the crowdfunding is successful and you're offered a job.

b) Even if you're not offered a job, you've got some experience and something to add to your portfolio which could generate in a marketing job somewhere else at another time.

OR If you're a web developer have a look at the Jobhop Kickstarter Campaign because if we reach our target, we will be looking for someone like you!
