Jobhop Jobhop's blog : Blab And How It Can Help You Attract Great Candidates

Jobhop Jobhop's blog

Let's Blab!

Monday 10th August at 10am I shall be doing my first blab, that's exciting I hear you say, but what 's a blab?

Have you heard of Periscope? What about Meerkat? How about a Google Hangout? You must've had a Skype chat! Blab is a bit like all of them and more.

In the blab room there are four spaces for four people to video chat at once, whilst onlookers watch and if they want to, can text chat questions or just text chat "hello"

Now the four spaces can be unlocked, that means if one person drops out of the video chat anyone watching can claim that space, click join and enter the blab.

To start a blab, you must have at least two in the chat for it to be pushed out to an audience. You can have a practise by yourself but it won't go out to anyone, sometimes that's handy for just trying out your presenting skills.

You can record all your blabs, even the solo ones, the recordings are sent to you in a link via your email which you can then put on your blog, website , in your tweets, even in your emails. Not only do you get a video recording, you also get an audio recording, one piece of content used in many ways, which is always good. Having a video and audio copy is great for users who like to take in information differently, it's also great for just being effective with your precious time.

So how can Blab help your company attract great candidates?

Let your employees loose on Blab

Once every couple of weeks four of your employees could host a blab. You can schedule the blabs in advance ( yes you can do that too) and start inviting your target market to watch. Each blab session could have your employees chatting on why it's good to work where they work and taking questions from possible candidates.

Interview thought leaders in your industry

You can invite and then schedule a blab with a great thought leader and notify your target candidate market to come and watch. If you want to be clever you could leave the other two spaces unlocked and let different members of the audience join and ask their questions directly to the industry thought leader.

Training

Blab regular training sessions to potential candidates. That's right, before candidates get the job have regular training sessions via blab, it could be sales training, online marketing training, health and safety training, you could hold them once a month on Blab. Now think ahead, you've cherry picked from the talent community that you've built and invited them along for an interview, knowing that they've followed all your training sessions on Blab, that means your candidates can literally hit the ground running!

So, going back to the intro when I said I'm doing my first Blab on Monday at 10.00am, I'm going to be interviewing Sarah Arrow, the queen of blog

Sarah is an author of many books including Zero to Blogger, successful business blogging and 37 blog posts. She's also a blogging and social media marketing consultant for individuals and businesses.

I intend to ask Sarah many questions on how blogging can be a sought after skill and how to make blogging a career.
