Jobhop Jobhop's blog : A Teenagers Thoughts On Social Media

I'm a teenager, so what are my thoughts on social media?

As a teenager social media is an important aspect to my life, it helps me out a lot, whether it’s used to talk to my friends and make arrangements or to find out the latest news, social media is always there in the background of my life.

I’ve been using certain platforms for years now such as Facebook. I started using Facebook at the age of 10, of course not to chat to my friends, back then it was just to play virtual games such as Farmville and take quizzes to find out what superhero I was most like. Now as technology develops and more platforms are being put out there for people to use, the common question continues to be asked; has Facebook had its time? My honest answer to this would be no. Facebook is always there in my life, I do not use it as much as I did two years or so ago but whenever I’m on my laptop it’s always in the background, maybe just to update the newsfeed every hour or so but mainly to talk to my friends. I know this relates to many other people as well, the majority of everyone I know will have Facebook running in the background but will also agree they do not use it as much as they used too.

Recently the discussion of students not realising the power social media has been topical and how it can effect them in their later life is becoming more and more common discussion.

More issues of businesses not employing the younger generation due to certain behaviour on their social media profiles are being discovered and are happening daily. Students are being told to be more careful with what they upload or share with things such as Drunken photos, violent behaviour and offensive language. I personally feel that the topic is not dealt with as strongly as it should, I feel that a lot of students don’t understand the possible long term effect social media can have on them and I believe the topic should be educated to people in school.

If you have your own personal views about the two topics I have covered then please do leave your comments and share your thoughts.
