Jobhop Jobhop's blog : 5 Social Media Sizzlers For Your Employees To Try
Just take a second to set the scene in your head.
You’ve just had a new delivery of funky pink widgets delivered, you have thirty employees who are all very excited, they get excited at every new delivery.
Your employees include sales, admin, accounts and two in the marketing department.
It’s Lizzy's turn from sales to do the live unboxing, she chooses Periscope as her preferred media channel and her followers ask her questions as she unboxes. Lizzy’s co-workers are helping her by answering the questions from the virtual spectators whilst she un-boxes. Sam from accounts is taking pictures which are instantly going to his Instagram and Flckr account, Suzy from admin is snap-chatting away, Tim in sales is tweeting the un-boxing in the local community chat and Greg in marketing is getting enough content for the new product blog post. Everybody else is Retweeting, sharing on Facebook, Regramming, G+ ing, you name it they’re doing it. Before you know it everyone wants more information on pink widgets, it’s amazing they only arrived an hour ago.
That scene that you set in your head is a scene of a truly social business, a place where social flows and employee advocacy just grows and grows.
Everyone understands the power of everybody being social, not just the marketing team!
Thirty employees from all departments excitedly spreading a message which is being picked up and shared by the masses, how much is that worth to you and your company?
If your business isn’t like that then your goal is to make sure it becomes like that.
Remember you can’t force your employees to use social media and you can’t make your company “be social” it all starts from the company culture. If your company culture isn’t right then you will need to work on that first before doing anything else.
Once your company culture rocks then encourage your employees to use social media, if this is new territory for you or them then get some social media training first.
5 Social media sizzlers for your employees
Un-boxing ceremony
An un-boxing of a new product is a huge online event where fans and curious followers will check in excitedly to see the action. Use tools like Periscope, Meerkat or a Google+ HOA to hold the live event, your employees can then invite their followers to watch and ask questions during the un-boxing.
Most engaging employee
Have weekly leaderboards ( Link) to find out who the most engaging employee on Twitter is. Make it fun with a weekly cup that has to be forwarded on to the next engaging employee, a weekly awards ceremony will make it fun.
Famous Retweet
This monthly challenge is a fun one and there’s always a trophy that’s passed onto the next months winner, unless the same person wins again. The employee who gets their tweet retweeted by the most famous celebrity gets to win the trophy for the month. So, for example if Sue’s tweet is retweeted by Jake Humphrey, then that’s great but if John’s tweet get’s retweeted by Simon Cowell then Sue gets trumped!
Most Loved Instagrammer
The challenge is to make the product looking as sexy as possible, using different locations, backgrounds, scenarios and filters. Take a tip from Starbucks when it comes to using Instagram. Starbucks have such a huge cult like following, it’s not just their employees instagramming, hashtags like #starbucks, #starbucklover , #starbucksmug #starbuckslife and so many more are all over Instagram, imagine if you replicate just a little bit of what they do. Allow the creative side in your employees to shine. Whoever gets the most likes that month for their masterpiece, gets it projected on to the office wall for a day or onto a new office mug, a canvas for their wall, or even a mouse mat.
Join in with Twitter Chats
Encourage your employees to join in with Twitter Chats, there’s many different types of chats they could join.
- #Industrychats
- #Topicchats
- #Communitychats
- #Locationchats
For example Jobhop is based in the City of Norwich and the local chats we like to get involved in are #Norwichhour and #Norfolkhour that enables us to really build solid relationships with those who are right on our doorstep.
Other chats that are of interest to us are #tchat #careerblogchat #gradshour
All of these chats are fun, informative and are great for relationship building. Your employees will enjoy meeting new people online, this not only benefits them it also benefits the company.
There may even come a time when your employees host a Twitter chat of their very own, now wouldn’t that be great!
